MCU officially casts Professor X and Magneto, and fans are losing their minds

To me, my X-Men

The MCU has officially cast two of the most important comic book characters in history for Avengers: Doomsday, and you might just recognise them.

For the last several hours now, Marvel has slowly been revealing the stacked cast for the next Avengers movie.

It's a giant roster that includes the likes of Thor, Black Panther, The Fantastic Four, and The Thunderbolts.

But one big surprise we didn't see coming? The return of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as Professor X and Magneto!

We've known for a while the X-Men would be coming to the MCU eventually. Certainly, we've had plenty of teases and the odd mutant here and there, but this could be the first time we see the old allies-turned enemies in the MCU proper.

We last saw Stewart as Professor X in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, where he met a pretty sticky end. We'll assume the one to appear in Avengers: Doomsday is another variant - maybe even the one we know from the Fox movies.

Meanwhile, we haven't seen McKellen since X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

It's also worth noting that Kelsey Grammar is set to return as Beast, who we last saw in a post-credits scene for The Marvels. Clearly, the X-Men are about to break through to the MCU in a big way.

The rest of the currently confirmed cast for Avengers: Doomsday is:

  • Patrick Stewart (Professor X)
  • Ian McKellen (Magneto)
  • Chris Hemsworth (Thor)
  • Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm)
  • Anthony Mackie (Captain America)
  • Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier)
  • Letitia Wright (Black Panther)
  • Paul Rudd (Ant Man)
  • Wyatt Russell (US Agent)
  • José Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor)
  • Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/Thing)
  • Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)
  • Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova)
  • Kelsey Grammer (Beast/Hank McCoy)
  • Lewis Pullman (Sentry/Robert Reynolds)
  • Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres/Falcon)
  • Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch)
  • David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian)
  • Winston Duke (M'Baku)
  • Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost)
