One of the original members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers will reportedly be returning for the fourth Tom Holland Spidey film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and fans are thrilled.

Considering how much we do know about Spider-Man: Brand New Day at this point, it’s kind of a surprise that we don’t really know what the outline of the plot is or how it’ll tie into Avengers: Doomsday.

Well, prepare to be even more in the dark on that front, because Nexus Point News just reported that Mark Ruffalo will be returning to play Bruce Banner in the film.

They didn’t have much to say in the way of specifics regarding his role, but they “can confirm Bruce Banner’s appearance will be much larger than a cameo and Ruffalo will have a substantial role in the film”.

Over on the r/MarvelStudios subreddit, fans are just excited to see two of the biggest Marvel characters finally interact on the big screen.

“I'm down for this,” commented user SlimIcarus21. “Spidey and Hulk are still two of the characters that come to my mind when I think Marvel, as I'm sure is the case for a lot of pre-MCU Marvel fans. I'd love to see Spidey and Wolverine interact on-screen someday too, my inner child would greatly appreciate that.”

“So thats why he isn’t in Doomsday. I actually really like this,” replied user darthyogi. “We haven’t really seen Bruce and Peter interact before and I’m excited to see how these two characters meet after everyone forgot who Peter was. Or what if that rumour from years ago where Hulk remembers who Peter was is true? That could be a really cool story.”

Considering the weird rights issues regarding The Hulk between Disney and Universal Pictures, it’s no surprise to see him pop up in the film (considering Disney can’t actually produce a Hulk solo film).

It also could double as a fun way to reference the scene from the comic The Immortal Hulk: Great Power, in which The Hulk remembered that Peter is Spider-Man following the events of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline in the comics.

I mean come on, surely they won’t pass up that opportunity, right?
