Marvel fans livid over Iron Man MCU sequel update

Yeah this one is never gonna see the light of day

If you were excited to see something Iron Man-related back on our screens any time soon then, well, I’ve got some bad news for you.

Also, I’m about to spoil what happened during the MCU TV show Secret Invasion so if you’ve not seen that yet… good for you. Do yourself a favour and keep reading anyway.

As detailed by Matt Webb Mitovich, TVLine recently sat down with Don Cheadle to discuss his role in the miniseries Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.

In between that however, they saw an opportunity to ask Cheadle about Armor Wars; a project that has seemingly been in development hell since it was announced all the way back in 2020.

Cheadle’s response should tell you all you need to know about where that’s currently at: “You can find out and let me know.”

“I don’t know, I’m not sure where anything is right now” he continued, “I think things are going through a lot of changes, and we’ll see what happens, we’ll see what it is.”

Armor Wars has been in a weird spot for a while now. When it was first announced, it was supposed to be a six-episode miniseries. Then, in 2022, Disney changed their mind. Suddenly Armor Wars had changed from a mini-series into a feature-length film.

Something that definitely wouldn’t have helped matters was the terrible critical reactions to Secret Invasion, which featured Cheadle’s character James Rhodey in one of the leading roles.

One of the main things fans took issue with was the big reveal that, for the majority of the show and for some of the character’s time in the main MCU films, Rhodey was revealed to have been a Skrull. Basically, we haven’t seen the real Rhodey for years at this point.

The awful critical reception the show received has likely led Disney to re-think whatever plans they had in store for Armor Wars, which is probably being rewritten in a bid to salvage the project.
