Marvel fans divided over MCU as we know it 'resetting'

Will Marvel hit the reset button?

Marvel fans have been discussing whether the MCU will be faced with another reset.

Whether it’s video games, TV or movies, hitting the reset button is not an uncommon practice and can be initiated for a number of reasons.

For example, a video game series might be rebooted due to the age of a property to not only keep active fans engaged but also to welcome those who are new.

What’s more, we’ve even got a Harry Potter reboot on the way in the form of a new live-action TV series from HBO.

Even the MCU is currently having a soft reboot of sorts as we speak following the conclusion of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

That being said, it might be fair to say that Marvel and Disney’s MCU has struggled following Avengers: Endgame which is why it seems like Captain America: Brave New World looks to be the start of something new as we move into Phase 6.

“Do you believe the MCU will completely reset eventually?” asked a Redditor.

“I don't think they'll reset entirely, but post-Avengers: Secret Wars, I'm expecting the multiverse to be a thing of the past or a side story,” explains Charles-Petrescu. “There'll be some recast characters, but generally it'll be about merging the Fox characters into the MCU in a way that retcons the main MCU history.”

“For now, we’ll see a soft reset, heroes retiring or dying and new heroes using current hero names as a homage or taking new names,” replied Reinier. “Before Tom Holland signed on for another three films, he kept saying he wanted to bring his Spider-Man films to a conclusion and move on to other projects.”

“Absolutely. At some point, people are going to want more Iron Man, Steve Rogers and Spider-Man. Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. aren’t gonna be able to keep up with it in the way that comics can,” said HearingCandid8974. “So yeah, I think eventually there will be another universe or at least newer versions of these characters.”

“A soft reboot every three phases, with a different team taking prominence every time until the Secret Wars story ends everything,” suggests MArcherCD.

The next movie to arrive in the MCU is Captain America: Brave New World on 14 February 2025 and Phase Six begins with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July 2026.
