The Deadpool & Wolverine hype train refuses to slow down, if recent rumours regarding Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds potentially making an appearance at a certain event are anything to go by.
According to a recent article by Deadline’s Pete Hammond, some “reliable sources” have informed the publication that both of the Deadpool & Wolverine stars are in the running to host the 2025 Oscars.
Hammond stated that the Oscars want “to include them as part of a star ensemble of rotating hosts, each — or in pairs — doing a portion of the show, per a plan to shake things up.”

That “rotating” list of hosts also supposedly includes Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler and Dwayne Johnson, although none of the potential hosts have yet to 100% confirm their involvement.
That includes Jackman and Reynolds apparently, as both of the stars have yet to agree to the gig. Apparently this is because Disney are campaigning for Reynolds to be nominated for Lead Actor and for Jackman to be nominated for Supporting Actor.
Side note, I liked Deadpool & Wolverine but come on Disney. I think even the biggest MCU fanboys would agree that Oscar nominations might be pushing it a bit.
Hosting-wise however, that I can absolutely see. Jackman and Reynolds were a huge factor in Deadpool & Wolverine’s success, as their charisma-fueled PR campaign kept the film in the news cycle for far longer than usual.

Plus, it’s no secret that the Academy Awards have been struggling recently. For one reason or another, people simply aren’t tuning in to watch the event in the same way they used to.
The Oscars used to be an event, with people staying up late to watch the entire thing live. Now most people just check to see who won on Twitter the next day so they can moan about it.
Getting the two stars of the second highest-grossing film of the year on board would certainly help to boost those viewing numbers.
