Marvel has a problem. The MCU, which boomed in popularity with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, spiralled out of control and became a juggernaut of entertainment.

As with all speedy increases in popularity, the company jumped on it and introduced a bevy of new characters through more Marvel films and the arrival of Disney+ allowing for TV shows.

A post has gone viral on Twitter that shows how many appearances each ‘Avenger’ has had between Iron Man (2008) and Infinity War.

This is shown side-by-side with a list of ‘Avengers’ who have appeared on-screen between Endgame and the upcoming Avengers: DOOMSDAY.

What you’ll see is a stark difference of key players and central stars, mostly because there are just so many characters now.

However, it’s also due to the fact that we’re rushing into a new set of Avengers films without actually establishing who the Avengers are now.

One Twitter user comments, “I have no idea why they’re going straight into two more large scale Avengers movies rather than doing at least one more along the lines of Avengers 2012.”

This makes sense. The first Avengers film came after establishing the heroes, and then the events and crossovers felt more natural.

The upcoming duology feels forced, as if Marvel is only leading into event cinema, forgetting that we need time to appreciate the characters and watch their arcs.

Another user said this, “There’s no connectivity, none of these characters know each other, there’s no storylines or dynamics being built up, we see a character, and it’s another four years before they appear again, impossible to get excited for anything they set up.”

The MCU is spread too thin, and the disparate characters aren’t going to feel as close to us as Tony Stark and Captain America once did.

This is leaving a lot of fans thinking similarly to this, “Yeah, they didn't build these new Avengers at all. Just shoehorning characters together.”

Let’s all just hope that Marvel pulls it out of the bag and lands another winner.
