The upcoming Avengers films are collecting actors like Pokémon, with a bevy of stars lining up to make an appearance as heroes and villains, old and new.

One such star seems to be returning from a more recent performance in Deadpool & Wolverine, hinting at perhaps taking on the Wolverine name from Hugh Jackman.

Thunderbolts* will be coming later this year and bringing the new team to the big screen.

According to leakers and rumours on Twitter, Dafne Keen will be reprising her role as hero X-23 in the upcoming Avengers: DOOMSDAY.

It’s hardly a surprise, given how popular she is with fans for both her performance and the embodiment of a well-loved character in X-23.

Will she become the MCU’s Wolverine, though?

The opportunity is there, seeing as we’re ushering in the age of the mutants with the next phase of the MCU.

My hope is that we see Hugh Jackman appear and hand over the baton on-screen in another touching moment between the two, with X-23 taking the name and being an integral part of the new X-Men team.

Of course, it will be hard to see Jackman go, but we’ve done it once before, we can do it again.

And Marvel needs fresh blood and younger stars to begin taking on the roles, that will be pivotal in the years to come.

Keen is perfect to lead a ragtag bunch of mutants until we see a more established storyline begin to play out.

Will Marvel opt for an all-new team, though? With their reliance on cameos and nostalgia, we could see some of the previous stars return to the fold.

This is especially notable if Doctor Doom does indeed merge the two universes, as existing members of the X-Men will be kicking around Earth-616.

We’ll have to wait and see what transpires as we begin the long journey to the Avengers duology of films.
