Avengers: Doomsday may be one of two upcoming Avengers movies but it is this next instalment in the franchise that has just left fans feeling terrified.

Although we don’t yet know much about this Marvel project, we do know that it will see Robert Downey Jr. make an appearance yet again.

However, he will be taking on the role of Doctor Doom as opposed to Tony Stark/Iron Man, much to our shock when it was announced earlier this year.

Other than that, details are sparse but according to a recent comment by Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is expected to be “explosive”.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo may be returning for the next instalment but according to Joe, he would have not returned to the MCU if it wasn’t for a “good reason”.

However, he believes that Doomsday is set to be on “equal footing” as Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame when it comes to game-changing superhero movies.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Joe said: “We’re all very close [referring to the relationship between the Russos and Downey Jr.].

“We had been working on another project before Marvel approached all of us – so we’re working on another project with Robert – and there was a story that evolved through conversations that we got very excited about. Because it’s always got to be the story.”

He continued: “Why would we come back if we didn’t feel like we had a story that had that possibility of being on an equal footing with Infinity War and Endgame unless there’s a kernel there for an idea that’s really explosive?”

Avengers: Doomsday currently has a release date of 1 May, 2026 with Avengers: Secret Wars set to follow in May 2027.
