The Lord of the Rings fans have explained what happened to Sauron after The One Ring was destroyed by Frodo Baggins.
The Lord of the Rings tales from author J.R.R. Tolkien are some of the most influential stories of good triumphing over evil that have inspired huge franchises such as the likes of Star Wars and Game of Thrones.
In the third novel/movie of The Lord of the Rings, namely The Return of the King, Frodo ends his perilous journey across Middle-earth and destroys The One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom, defeating the Dark Lord, Sauron, once and for all.
However, with Sauron, at least in the three main novels and the Peter Jackson movies, being an immortal Maiar spirit, and no longer a physical entity, what came of the villainous corrupter after Frodo had completed his quest?

This was a question asked by Redditor Josh-Zimmermann, and the community was keen to provide the all-important answers.
“His physical body was destroyed when Barad-dûr collapsed," replied Drummk. “His spirit remained in Middle-earth, but because he had lost all his 'native power' when the Ring was destroyed, he could never re-embody himself, and his spirit was powerless.”
However, Swazal added some insight provided by the wise Gandalf, the Grey.
“If The Ring is destroyed, then Sauron will fall; and his fall will be so low that none can foresee his arising ever again,” explained the wizard.

“For he will lose the best part of the strength that was native to him in his beginning, and all that was made or begun with that power will crumble, and he will be maimed for ever, becoming a mere spirit of malice that gnaws itself in the shadows, but cannot again grow or take shape. And so a great evil of this world will be removed.”
So, there you have it, Sauron isn't really up to much nowadays, and it’s no less than he deserves.
