Those who are eager for more Aloy but do not want to wait until Horizon Zero Dawn 3, you are in luck as its live-action film is set to be released a lot sooner than we thought.
First released back in 2017, Horizon Zero Dawn soon joined the ranks of some of the most beloved PlayStation exclusive titles, going onto inspire its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, in 2022.
The story follows hunter Aloy who exists in a land overrun by mechanical monsters and she must embark on a quest to discover her past whilst also dealing with the ever-changing world around her.
Both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West were received well by critics and players alike with praise for its stunning open-world, story, combat, visuals and voice acting, especially for Aloy who is played by Ashly Burch.

So it is perhaps no surprise that filmmakers have been inspired to bring the Horizon franchise to the big screen with a live-action adaptation.
With Sony’s live-action movie set to begin filming as early as next year, recent court filings discovered by The Game Post reveal that the Horizon movie already has a working script and is getting closer to its production phase.
As part of Sony’s ongoing battle with legal Tencent, PlayStation Productions boss Asad Qizilbash said:
“We are in development for a film based on Horizon in partnership with Columbia Pictures.

We already have a working script and are actively searching for a director, with the goal of shooting the picture in 2026 and releasing it in 2027.
The live-action film follows the recent collaborations between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions on the 2022 film Uncharted and the 2023 film Gran Turismo.”
The ongoing legal battle refers to Tencent publishing an Horizon knock-off in the form of Light of Motiram with the latter looking almost identical to the Guerrilla title.
Described as the “Slavish clone”, PlayStation aims to prove that this copycat game has massively damaged Horizon’s brand.

For now however, the live-action Horizon movie is still in the works but it will have to stand up against another major video game movie adaptation, 2027’s The Legend of Zelda.
With both expected to hit cinemas in 2027, it seems as though Horizon will have to push the boat up to stand up to the Nintendo giant but as we know, Horizon is no stranger to going head-to-head with some major game releases. Elden Ring, anyone?
Considering that the live-action Horizon movie was first announced earlier this year, it is exciting to learn that its progress is coming along and we can expect the movie in just two years time.
Let us hope it lives up to the hit Guerrilla Games franchise and not flop like so many video game adaptations that have come before it.
