Harry Potter star shares inspiring message with TV reboot’s young cast

"You've been cast for a reason, a very good reason."

Harry Potter is a franchise that is incredibly beloved by so many people around the world.

If you grew up in the 00s as I did, it was likely a key part of your younger years.

Like so many others, I recall awaiting the release of the seventh and final book, or rushing to the cinema to see the latest film installment with my family.

There’s a comforting familiarity to the series, and I think it’s that that pulls so many of us back in.

And it’s also for that reason that I’m unsure how to feel about HBO’s upcoming TV reboot.

The idea of exploring one book per season is interesting, but is it too early to move on?

The original cast, sets, and in-world designs remain so prevalent in our minds that it’s certainly going to be strange to see this story interpreted in a new way.

It appears that the reboot is making progress though with several of its adult characters now having been cast; John Lithgow will star as Dumbledore, while Paapa Essiedu will bring Snape to life.

I do wonder how the series’ new young stars must be feeling though.

Their casting is yet to be announced to the world, but as exciting as I’m sure this adventure will be, there must be some feelings of trepidation too.

You can view the teaser for HBO’s Harry Potter reboot below.

Well, I recently had the opportunity to catch up with the lovely Katie Leung at this year’s BAFTA Games Awards.

In recent years, Katie has been bringing Caitlyn to life in Netflix’s incredible Arcane, but many of us will know the actor for her work as Cho Chang in the original Harry Potter films.

I asked Katie if she had any words of wisdom as a new young cast prepares to embark on this magical adventure, and she shared some beautifully heartfelt words.

“I remember feeling really scared, because it’s going to be such a huge budgeted show and there’s going to be so many people involved,” Katie began.

“I think it’s really important to remember to be true to how you want to play a character, and just don’t let outer voices get to you. You’ve been cast for a reason, for a very good reason. Just roll with it.”

She continued, “Just have fun; I would say just have fun. Remember that there are going to be a lot of people but what matters most in the end is to be vulnerable and open to exploring.”

Wonderful words of wisdom, I’m sure you will agree.
