Superman: Awakens Unreal Engine trailer is one of the best things we've ever seen

A fan-made Superman cinematic is the best representation of the Man Of Steel we’ve had in years.

It’ll be a while until we see Superman return to the big screen. James Gunn is now leading DC’s cinematic universe going forward, starting with Superman: Legacy, which will act as a starting point for the rebooted franchise.

Check out the new trailer for Aquaman 2 below

Much to fan dismay, it won’t be Henry Cavill putting on the cape again, as Gunn wants the new films to be completely separate from the ones started by Zack Snyder with Man Of Steel. The new Superman actor is David Corenswet.

While many are sceptical if James Gunn can pull off a Superman story that actually respects the character, whilst also delivering on the spectacle of an ultra-powerful alien fighting evil, but if he takes notes from this fan film, he might be okay.

The fan film in question is called Superman: Awakens, and it’s phenomenally good. It’s only about 5 minutes long, but perfectly encapsulates the hope and wonder of the Kryptonian, instead of making him a raging psychopath like so many other DC stories.

It takes inspiration from the Kingdom Come storyline, which sees Batman’s number one villain The Joker, attack the Daily Planet. Everyone in the building dies, including Superman’s sweetheart Lois Lane.

After someone takes justice into their own hands, Superman gives up on humanity and goes into exile, before eventually returning when the world needs him the most.

It’s a wonderful story, and well worth a read for any DC or comic fan, and it’s been perfectly adapted into a short film.

Following Superman recounting the woes of the past, and revisiting some of the disasters he could have prevented if he hadn’t hung up the cape, it ends with DC’s greatest hero returning to Metropolis, and reiterating the hope and joy he brings to those who need him.

It’s honestly perfect, and if there’s even the slightest chance it could turn into a full project it could become the greatest Superman film ever made.
