A Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Nintendo Direct has been announced for 29 January 2026, and, already, some players have taken to sharing some… Tributes to late Conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk.
Look, ever since the first Tomodachi Life came out in 2013, players have used it to life-sim celebrities and political figures. So much of this world feels as unruly and tangible as mist, so there’s a certain satisfaction that comes from taking back control, in any way we can.
Who amongst us hasn’t made Obama, Donald Trump, or their third-grade substitute teacher, as a Mii?
If I can get them to sing inappropriate things on the Tomodachi Life stage, well that’s just a bonus, isn’t it?

With that in mind, it was inevitable, following the September assassination by a gunman in Utah, that the internet would respond in a varied way. Some people mourned. Some people celebrated. Others created Charlie Kirk Miis, ready for the return of Tomodachi Life.

They’re not the only ones who are welcoming Charlie Kirk to their Tomodachi Life Island.
Over on Reddit, I spotted this video by user Past-Mycologist3843, making their Charlie Kirk Mii sing a rendition of the viral meme AI song ‘We Are Charlie Kirk’, created by Spalexma, in Tomodachi Life. Give it a watch here.
What Will The Tomodachi Life Direct Focus On?
I think the thing that impresses me the most, besides the speed people have created these Charlie Kirk memes, is the hype around Tomodachi Life returning.
It’s been a meme for years, I didn’t think Nintendo would actually make a sequel. Hopefully, we get a better look at the core gameplay loop during this Direct.
The 3DS version was a cosy life sim, with tongue-in-cheek humour. From the first look we got, it looks like the weirdness has been dialled up to 11.
But I’m thinking, with Pokemon Pokopia and the Animal Crossing 3.0 update releasing so recently, this game won’t be another simple life-sim.
I think we’re in for something really unexpected with this Direct.
Tomodachi Life releases Spring 2026. That’s soon! We’ll likely get a firm release date in the upcoming Nintendo Direct… Can I pray for a shadow drop?
