Tomb Raider New Game Update Surfaces and it's Good News

Lara's return is imminent

Tomb Raider is long-overdue a comeback, and by that I mean a brand-new game for Lara Croft.

No shade to the remasters of Lara’s PlayStation games, they’ve been brilliant, but I think we’re all waiting for something new.

Crystal Dynamics is working hard on the future of the Tomb Raider series and a few leaks indicate it’ll be going fully open-world, in an adventure that sounds more like Just Cause of Far Cry than Tomb Raider for the time being.

For those that aren’t aware Crystal Dynamics has been working closely with Amazon as of late, with Amazon holding the publishing rights for the next Tomb Raider game.

Just this week though, Amazon announced mass layoffs across its entire company, including its game division prompting many fans to fear the worst.

The biggest loss so far is New World: Aeternium, an MMO that I played once at Summer Game Fest and didn’t think was half bad, but unfortunately its end is drawing near.

A silver lining though is that the next Tomb Raider game is safe for the time being. Amazon’s statement, on company changes clarified matters.

“While these changes are significant, we still have a lot going on in game development,” said vice president Steve Boom.

“Our Montreal studio recently concluded a successful closed alpha of March of Giants and is working hard to finish the game.”

Boom added: “Our Studio 5 team just released Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg as the launch title in Luna and will continue their focus on more casual and AI-focused games, optimized for Luna.

"Finally, we are continuing to work with our external studio partners Crystal Dynamics on an upcoming Tomb Raider title and Maverick Games on an upcoming open world driving game.”

So there you go, Tomb Raider is still on the way and hasn’t been affected thank the Lord, but there’s still no indication on when we’ll see it in action.

There’s plenty of speculation though, as a second season of the Tomb Raider anime launches this December and its release date coincidentally lines up with the 2025 Game Awards.

Gamers think the new season will be promoted during the show, before giving us our first proper look at the next game in the series, which sounds about right.

We’ll have to wait and see but for the time being Tomb Raider fan will just have to sit tight, your day is coming.
