How to change the Beast of Reincarnation language to the English dub

Game Freak is best known as the developer behind the Pokémon franchise, but it’s now branched out with its latest action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation.

It follows an outcast by the name of Emma and her wolf companion, Koo, as they’re forced to travel across a post-apocalyptic version of Japan overrun by Blight, a parasite affecting plant and animal life.

When was Beast of Reincarnation released?

Beast of Reincarnation is available as of today (Tuesday, August 4) across PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.

It’s available via Xbox Game Pass, too, if you have a subscription to the Ultimate or PC tier.

What’s been the reaction so far?

Beast of Reincarnation hasn’t exactly gone down swimmingly with critics, garnering a mixed score of 73 on aggregate website Metacritic – but that doesn't mean it’s not worth trying.

The game earned plenty of eight and nine scores alongside those lower scores of six; it’s all a matter of taste and preference.

Awarding a score of 70, Insider Gaming said, “Beast of Reincarnation represents a solid and sumptuous post-apocalyptic romp, but it has too many imperfections that need to be addressed with post-launch updates for it to reach the level it could (or should).”

In its three-star review, Eurogamer added, “Game Freak borrows liberally from the genre's biggest hits. And while it's messy and muddled, it's salvaged by exhilarating combat and traversal, and a surprising amount of soul.”

How to change the language settings to the English dub

If you do choose to give Beast of Reincarnation a whirl, you’ll likely be surprised to find out that the game is set to play in Japanese by default.

Of course, you may want to listen to that Japanese dub, which features the voice work of Yui Ishikawa as Emma, who also voiced the Japanese version of 2b in Nier: Automata.

But, if you'd rather switch to the English dub, which stars Hanako Footman in the leading role, you’ll need to navigate through some unusual settings.

Strangely, you can’t switch between languages when you’re actually playing the game. Instead, Beast of Reincarnation requires you to head back to the main menu.

From there, select ‘Settings’, followed by ‘Language’.

You should then see the option of ‘Voiceover Language’ and that’s where you can select between English and Japanese.

There are additional options, as expected, for subtitles, whether the speaker name is viewable, and more.

If you are already in the game and need to go back to the menu, you can save your game, select ‘Settings’, press ‘Other’ then ‘Return to Title’ and you’ll be on the page you now require.
