Tomb Raider Catalyst is one of two Lara Croft games currently in development with Crystal Dynamics, and its release date has finally been narrowed down by Embracer Group.
While Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a reboot of the original Lara Croft adventure, Tomb Raider Catalyst is an all-new entry in the series, and supposedly the biggest to date.
It was originally supposed to launch next year, but plans have since changed. A new report from Embracer Group tells us more.
When is Tomb Raider Catalyst launching?
The report, via Tomb Raider Chronicles, says Tomb Raider Catalyst will be released somewhere amidst the 2027/2028 fiscal year for the company.
This matches previous reports that the game has been delayed to 2028, but the new report from Embracer adds more context for when we’ll see it.

Given when Embracer’s fiscal years start and end, this places the game’s release between April 2027 and March 2028. With it being confirmed to launch in 2028, that could place it anywhere from January to March 2028, with February sounding more likely.
It makes sense, as we said earlier, Crystal Dynamics is currently working on two Tomb Raider games, and they could easily cannibalise each other if released in close proximity.
At the time of writing, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is still on track for launch on February 12 2027. The game was supposed to release sooner, but was delayed by several months. We actually played it at Summer Game Fest 2026, and while we did enjoy it, the gameplay made it clear that more time in the oven was needed.
Releasing Legacy of Atlantis in 2027 and Tomb Raider Catalyst in 2028 just makes the most sense from a business standpoint. Fans both new and old will get reintroduced to Lara Croft during her first major excursion, before diving into a brand-new adventure the following year.
It’s all very exciting, but don’t expect to see a Tomb Raider Catalyst trailer anytime soon. If the game is seriously targeting a 2028 launch, we might only get a glimpse of it in late 2026, if that.

What is Tomb Raider Catalyst about?
After an impossible event, Lara is whisked off to India to uncover another mystery buried beneath the Earth.
Like usual, it’s not going to be smooth sailing, as treasure hunters will be hot on her heels trying to find the origin of this phenomenon first.
The game will be made with Unreal Engine 5 apparently, and it’s said to be open-world. India will be the largest playground Lara has found herself in years, and the mysterious force that attracted her will have apparently reshaped the world around her, so traversal should be interesting.
Honestly, it’s starting to sound like a mash-up between Tomb Raider and Just Cause, and we’re here for it.
The only thing that could rain on this parade is the news that Lara will wield another video game grappling hook… Those things are everywhere these days, and it’s starting to get a little old…
