This article contains spoilers for episode two, ‘Infected.’

HBO’s The Last of Us is proving that every single episode is set to be an emotional rollercoaster, although did we really expect things to be any other way? It’s a story that has a habit of killing off every character we get attached to. First up, it was Sarah and now you can add Tess to that list.

Tess’ death was both tragic and gross. After revealing that she’d been bitten during an earlier Clicker encounter, Tess sacrificed herself to prevent a horde of Infected from chasing after Joel and Ellie. The scene did include a cool Uncharted 4 easter egg, but it also saw an Infected give Tess what I can only describe as tendril-filled mouth-to-mouth. It’s a moment that’s split fans but one thing they’re in agreement about is the fact that Anna Torv’s performance as Tess was incredible.

Check out the trailer below to see what’s in store in the week’s ahead on The Last of Us.

I’ll admit, I’ve always liked Tess in the game but she’s never been a character I strongly attached to. Maybe because we spend so little time with her but by the time the character’s death came in the TV show, I was devastated. Fans agree that Anna Torv did an incredible job bringing the character to life and it’s a shame that that’s the last we’ll see of the character.

Twitter user _claymorgenthau wrote, “Applauding Anna Torv for her portrayal of Tess because she was amazing,” while rocketstaron added, “Anna Torv as Tess Servopoulos you will always be famous I’m gonna miss you so much.” The_FatThor said, “I also LOVED Anna Torv as Tess. Really elevated the character from the game and makes the emotional moments for her hit so much harder.”

In fact, fans just aren’t ready to say goodbye. Verasleoni wrote, “If we don’t get some Joel and Tess flashbacks I will RIOT. I need more Anna Torv.” Rainnwilson added, “Anna Torv deserves every award for her performance in HBO’s terrific The Last of Us.” I quite agree.
