Forget The Witcher 4, We Now Know Release Window for Witcher 5 And 6

That's promising news.

I don’t know about you, but I’m very excited for The Witcher 4.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is arguably one of the best RPGs of all time, and even ten years later I’m still finding myself stepping into that world once again.

But considering it's been a decade since our last major Witcher adventure, and possibly still a few more years until we get The Witcher 4, I’m a little worried about the release pipeline for the next Witcher trilogy.

CD Projekt Red has already confirmed that it plans to do The Witcher 4, The Witcher 5, and The Witcher 6 as a trilogy. And it sounds like you might not actually have to wait that long for each game.

During this week’s Q3 earnings call, CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski was asked about the release schedule for the next Witcher trilogy.

“Our plan still is to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period,” Nowakowski responded, which would mean a roughly three-year period of development between each game.

Nowakowski did not mention a possible release date for The Witcher 4, but if the trilogy is targeting a three-year development cycle for each game then that could mean the game will drop in late 2027.

The Witcher 4 entered full-scale production in November 2024, which could mean CD Projekt Red is targeting 2027 as the release date.

However, given it’s the first title of a trilogy, it may also mean that this one takes a bit longer to make than its two sequels, which could very possibly reuse assets to save on development time and costs.

Nowakowski himself acknowledges this, adding that “Yes, that would mean we would plan to have a shorter development time between TW4 and TW5, between TW5 and TW6, and so on.”

The Witcher 6 Could Release By 2033

If the company is able to stick to this roadmap, it could mean that we see The Witcher 4 in 2027, The Witcher 5 around 2030, and The Witcher 6 by 2033 or 2034.

Don’t forget that CDPR is also working on other games within this timeframe as well, including The Witcher 1 remake and Cyberpunk 2.

Of course, delays can always happen and we should set our expectations accordingly, especially given how ambitious a three-year development cycle is nowadays. So, don’t take this as CDPR being certain that the next three Witcher games will definitely be out within a decade’s time.
