‘The Witcher 3' PS5/Xbox Series Versions Have Been Delayed

Which will be finished first: these ports or 'Cyberpunk 2077'?

Developer and publisher CD Projekt Red has a lot on its plate, and now it seems there are issues with the new-gen ports of its most popular game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Last month it was announced that a fourth game in the mainline Witcher series is in the works. While the devs have a team working on that, there is still a dedicated group of developers working to update Cyberpunk 2077 into the state it should have been when it was originally released. If working on two massive open worlds wasn’t enough, the studio has decided to take on and finish the work on the new-gen ports of The Witcher 3 to boot.

See why we think Ciri should be the protagonist of the latest Witcher game in the video below.

An excellent port of The Witcher 3 was developed and released for the Nintendo Switch by Saber Interactive in 2019. When the ports for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X were announced in September 2020, before the consoles had even released, it was reported that Saber would be working on this port as well.

CD Projekt Red promised that the update would be free for those who owned the original on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One copies respectively, but the new port would contain all those latest generation niceties. There was the usual Ray-Tracing, stable 60fps, and 4k graphics promised, as well as the inclusion of some fan favourite mods.

As posted yesterday (13 April) via the official Witcher Twitter account, the ports which were due to release around the summer of this year, have now been delayed. The reason given is that they have moved the development of the port into its own studio, meaning it is no longer outsourcing the project to Saber Interactive.

There is no new release period confirmed, so it seems all we can do for now is patiently await further updates.
