Already one of the most jam-packed RPGs of all time, The Witcher 3 is gearing up for another DLC that will tie a knot on the beloved game before the fourth game in the series arrives next year.
But before the highly anticipated Songs of the Past DLC, one of the biggest questlines that CD Projekt RED ever made - and unfortunately subsequently scrapped - is being remade and re-added.
Known as 'WAR', the questline was supposed to be part of the Velen and Novigrad portion of the game, running side by side with the Baron's family fiascos and Kira Metz's manipulative misfortunes.
But after the developers scrapped it back in 2014, they released many of the original files in 2024 to help with modding support, and now one team has begun remapping the entire opening of The Witcher 3 to fit it in.
The Witcher's modding community is up there with the greats, making some innovative and sublime quests with original characters and meddlesome beasts.

One of those is The War Project, which is rewriting the entire opening to The Witcher 3 to re-add a 10-hour questline that never made the cut.
The quest follows the famed Velen characters and dives into the politics that Geralt swore out of but cannot help but meddle in.
"In brief, it revolved around Geralt participating in efforts alongside Roche and his partisans to take down a Nilfgaardian medic known as Hector Kraft-Ebbing. It also involved characters such as Thaler and Ves, as well as returning characters Iorveth and Vincent Meis," reads the Nexus Mods description.
It includes seven mainline missions and five side quests, and involves reworking certain locations to be a fortified castle for a new villain.

The project isn't as simple as simply adding in a quest, as CD Projekt RED reworked much of its scrapped content into different quests, which means the team needs to rework the entirety of the Redania storylines, including the divisive mission 'Reason of State'.
Currently, there are four of the quests available to download and play, with the other eight coming in early 2027.
While the mod isn't finished, it could be the perfect re-entry point for any The Witcher 3 fans before the Songs of the Past DLC arrives, giving players an insight into the minds of the developers' earliest thoughts as we see their last creations come to life - a full circle moment for any of the true fans.
