'The Simpsons: Hit And Run' Russian Bootleg Was Dubbed By One Person

This is surreal yet incredible.

Over the holidays, an intriguing bootleg version of The Simpsons: Hit and Run was discovered and it appears that the Russian fan who dubbed over the original English lines has lent their voice talents to every single character in every single cutscene.

Incredibly enough, every button input has been bound to the left mouse click, bar the brakes which were apparently not needed in this version of the game. The Simpsons: Hit and Run does hold a special place in players' hearts in spite of essentially being a family-friendly Grand Theft Auto rip off set in Springfield. Frequently it tops the list of remakes that gamers would love to see released for the new generation of consoles and even the producer of the classic game has said he'd back a remaster if it was ever made.

Here's a list of our favourite Simpsons games - can you guess which spot Hit and Run earns?

Regrettably, that possibility shirked away with the emergence of the "complicated corporate octopus" that must be bested before The Simpsons: Hit and Run gets a remake or a remaster. That's why it is so cheering to see individual fans take the task into their own hands and how hilarious it is that this bootleg is the result of one dedicated player with a lot of time on their hands.

Twitter user emi fisher found this gem where the person has re-recorded almost all of the dialogue for Hit and Run themselves in their native Russian. I say "almost all" as some lines have slipped through the net, and unshakeable catchphrases like Homer's iconic "d'oh", "wahoo" and Barney's warbling remain in the game.

You have to hand it to them though as they have given the characters their own voice, like Bart's high-pitched, scratchy voice compared to Homer's lower yet sort of sing song narration, and Jimbo's nasal, aggressive tone. It's a surreal experience yet I'm not completely against it and the reception to this bootleg version of Hit and Run has been rapturous. "Man saw no one was gonna make accessible for his people and made it himself," praised one player. "Fan translation patches for games saved my ass as a kid that didn't [speak] English, but this is a whole new level." Aw.
