Thanks to a recent interview with the star, we now have a rough estimate of how much Elijah Wood was paid for his role as Frodo Baggins in all three The Lord of the Rings films… and whatever amount you’re thinking, I’d wager it’s a lot lower than you’re assuming.

As revealed in a recent article by Caralynn Matassa, Business Insider was lucky enough to interview Elijah Wood on the red carpet during the recent 2025 Texas Film Awards.

The topic of Wood’s salary for the trilogy came up during the interview, and he seemed to imply that he was paid a combined fee for his role in all three films.

“Because we weren't making one movie and then renegotiating a contract for the next, it wasn't the sort of lucrative scenario that you could sort of rest easy for the rest of your life,” Wood revealed.

“The benefit of that was that we were also signing up for something that was going to be a part of our lives forever…”

As Caralynn Matassa states in their article, while Wood didn’t outright state a specific fee, we can figure out roughly how much he was probably paid based on the salaries of some of the other cast members.

For instance, Orlando Bloom stated that he was paid $175,000 for all three films, and Sean Astin revealed that he was paid around $250,000.

When directly asked if he was paid an amount similar to Astin, Wood simply replied: “It doesn’t matter.”

“It's such an honor to have been a part of those films,” he continued, “and they represent some of the best experiences of my life.”

Baffling to think about how much profit those films generated in relation to how much the actors were paid, but I kinda understand Wood’s outlook.

Elijah Wood certainly wasn’t a nobody by the time he starred in the LOTR films, having already appeared in starring roles in films such as Flipper, The Adventures of Huck Finn, and The War, but his career definitely took off in a much bigger way afterwards.

Regardless, it’s nice to know he and the rest of the cast look back on the experience in such a fond way. It makes rewatching the trilogy that much better, knowing that the people behind it love it as much as we do.
