The Last Of Us' finale had a hidden Abby cameo

The Last Of Us' finale had a hidden Abby cameo

The season finale of HBO's The Last of Us was hiding a fun Part II Abby cameo.

The day I’ve been dreading finally arrived. HBO’s The Last of Us drew to a close last night - and what an incredible nine weeks it’s been.

Even before the series premiered, many were hailing The Last of Us as the greatest video game adaptation of all time. If you’re a fan of Naughty Dog’s video game series, I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s been fun to see certain actors return. Merle Dandridge, of course, reprised the role of Marlene. We got to speak to Tommy actor Jeffrey Pierce and Joel actor Troy Baker about bringing Perry and James to life, respectively, and in the finale, Ellie actress Ashley Johnson beautifully portrayed Ellie’s mum Anna. Did you know that the finale was also hiding a quick Abby cameo too?

The Last of Us Part I launches on PC on 28 March.

Warning: I’ll be addressing both episode nine and Part II plot spoilers ahead. Without further ado, the cameo takes place in the Firefly hospital. When Joel breaks into the operating theatre to save Ellie, he encounters a surgeon and two nurses. In Part II, we’ll discover that the surgeon is in fact Jerry Anderson, kickstarting Abby’s revenge crusade. Did you spot though that one of the show’s nurses was played by none other than Laura Bailey?

If you’re familiar with the games, you’ll know that Laura Bailey plays Abby making this an extra fun cameo seeing as video game Abby is quite literally watching TV show Abby’s dad’s demise. I said a fun cameo, it’s quite traumatic really. Co-showrunner Neil Druckmann took to Twitter to share a behind the scenes photo writing, “And the winner for funniest text of all time goes to Laura Bailey for sending me this gem.”

I did originally wonder if Bailey would pop up in season two seeing as Pierce, Baker, and Johnson all had fairly substantial roles in season one. I could see the actress bringing a Seraphite to life or another member of the WLF. Given how small this cameo is and that Bailey’s face is practically covered up, it’s still a possibility. It was a nice Part II tease though to tide us over until season two arrives.
