Every now and again, I see a newly announced game that’s so cool that I think to myself, “How has nobody tried to make something like this before now?”
I don’t have an answer for that one as far as today’s example is concerned, because a third-person hack-and-slash medieval zombie game is such a slam dunk, yet I can’t think of another title that has ever tried to pull it off.
Alright, I’m getting a bit ahead of myself here. What do you reckon a ye olde, fantastical The Elder Scrolls VI-style game might look like, if you injected The Last of Us Part II’s combat into it?
Personally, I think it would look a lot like Blight: Survival, an upcoming medieval survival horror game from first-time developer Haenir Studio and publisher Behaviour Interactive on Steam.

At its heart, the game is an online co-op game. The goal of Blight: Survival is to team up with some friends as you slice your way across a never-ending battlefield, running into both zombies and player-controlled enemies along the way.
However, don’t get too disheartened if you’re not the co-op type, because you can play through the entire game solo. Sounds like it’ll be way harder that way, but I’m sure hearing that just gets some of you even more hyped.
As far as the combat is concerned, it seems that you’ll be at a disadvantage from the offset. You’ll have to sneak around or take on enemies with less-than-ideal equipment until you chance upon some good gear, because you’ll start a playthrough with the bare necessities.
There’s a good chance you may have heard of this one already, because the first gameplay trailer for the game built a lot of hype when it dropped almost three years ago.

Since then, we haven’t seen much out of Blight: Survival, at least in terms of trailers or demos, but the devs have been very vocal about its progress online.
There still isn’t a release date in sight for this one though, so it sounds like we might be waiting a while. Also, from what I can tell, this is a PC-only release for the time being (although that may change if the game is popular enough at launch).
If you’re really keen to try it out as soon as possible, you can take your chances and sign up to be a part of the playtest on Behaviour Interactive’s official website (as long as you’re from either Canada or the USA, apparently).
I guess, as a filthy Englishman, I’ll just wait until the full release. Here’s hoping this one lives up to that impressive gameplay trailer, because I’ve got some big expectations already.
