The Elder Scrolls VI is arguably one of the most intangible games in development.
While it’s definitely set to release at some point, the total lack of an update within the eight-years since it was first announced has left many gamers feeling utterly dejected.
There are, however, other experiences out there that should give you the same kind of thrill you experienced after playing Skyrim for the very first time.
One such rival experience is set to launch in June, Gothic 1 Remake.
Advert
Developed by Alkimia Interactive and published by THQ Nordic, Gothic 1 Remake is an open-world RPG that arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on 5 June 2026.
We shouldn’t see the title delayed either as it’s just opened its pre-orders which are very reasonably priced for a game of this size.
The PC version of Gothic 1 Remake will set you back $49.99, quite a bit cheaper than the going rate of $70 for most major releases these days.
On console, you’ll have to spend a bit more with Gothic 1 Remake costing you $59.99, but this does include the original version of Gothic as a free bonus.
If you hadn’t gathered, Gothic 1 Remake is a remake of the acclaimed 2001 title, totally rebuilt within Unreal Engine 5.

The game is set within the Kingdom of Myrtana where King Rhobar II orders the vast mining of a magical ore in order to craft weapons to fend off invading orcs.
The King instructs a mage to create a magical barrier surrounding the mine to keep the orcs out, but it accidentally traps the miners inside. Those miners eventually establish their own lawless territory.
“Now, the King must negotiate with these new rulers, as tensions rise among the mine's factions. Amidst the chaos, the arrival of an unknown prisoner will change everything,” the synopsis teases.
Gothic 1 Remake features all of the expected RPG fare. You’ll complete both quests and side quests, explore, solve environmental puzzles, befriend NPCs, upgrade your weapons, and improve your skills.
For those that have played the original Gothic, here, you can expect to find extended questlines, new NPC routines and reactions, additional traversal abilities, as well as a modernised combat system.

What’s even better is that if you can’t wait until June, you can enjoy a free prologue for Gothic 1 Remake across all launch platforms now.
The Gothic 1 Remake Demo, also known as the Nyras Prologue, doesn’t feature any main game content.
Instead, it tells an original story set before the events of Gothic 1 Remake; it sees players assume the role of a prisoner on their first day within the prison colony.
If you need something to fill the hole left in your heart by the total absence of The Elder Scrolls, Gothic 1 Remake could be it.
