The Elder Scrolls 6 fans have 'high hopes' as leaked screenshots appear for long-awaited remaster

Does this finally confirm The Elder Scrolls 6's 2027 release date?

We’ve finally seen some leaked screenshots of the next Elder Scrolls release… but don’t get too excited, because said screenshots confirm that the next entry in the franchise won’t actually be The Elder Scrolls VI.

Alright, let me explain. Yesterday, screenshots leaked from one of the industry’s worst-kept secrets: The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered.

The leak confirmed two important things. Firstly, yeah, the Oblivion remaster is real. But more importantly, it confirmed that Bethesda aren’t actually the primary developer of the upcoming title.

So, in that case, why is this getting The Elder Scrolls VI fans excited? Well, let’s have a look at the comments over on the r/TESVI subreddit before I explain.

“If the rumors about improved combat are true I’ll feel a bit better about TES VI,” commented user BirdNose72.

“Still not 100% confident they can pull it off seeing as this is supposedly a hybrid unreal engine remaster rather than pure creation engine.”

“this being released now, 3 years after the planned release shown in the FTC leaked documents gives even more credence to ESVI coming in 2027,” replied user aazakii.

“I now have very little doubt left that the planned release is in fact, in two years.”

Because of a document that leaked back in 2022 detailing the timeline of Bethesda’s upcoming games, we can now pinpoint The Elder Scrolls VI’s release date (much in the same way we can do for the upcoming remaster of Fallout 3).

If the Oblivion remaster is finally coming out in 2025, three years after its original, leaked release date, then it should stand to reason that The Elder Scrolls VI will drop three years late too… in 2027.

Now, different development studios work at different rates, so it could be argued that this actually doesn’t mean too much in the grand scheme of things.

However, I’d say this is good news either way. If Bethesda aren’t the primary devs for the Oblivion remaster, then doesn’t that mean they’ve been free to continue development for The Elder Scrolls VI this whole time?
