The Elder Scrolls 6 announcement roasted as we hit grim milestone

Stay strong, my friends

Yesterday, The Elder Scrolls VI hit an incredibly grim milestone; it’s been seven long years since the game was officially announced.

I’m sure many of you remember Bethesda’s press conference at 2018’s E3.

The room erupted in cheers as the long-awaited follow-up to 2011’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was announced.

It was hardly the most exciting trailer. A cinematic shot swept over Tamriel, settling as The Elder Scrolls VI logo popped up.

At the time though, of course, none of us minded the trailer’s brevity.

We didn’t think that seven years later, we’d still be sitting here waiting for an update.

Yes, it’s one thing for The Elder Scrolls VI to not be out yet, but it’s incomprehensibly wild that we’ve not even seen anything else in the way of a trailer or tease.

Heck, we don’t even know The Elder Scrolls VI’s full title; we’re as in the dark as you can possibly be.

There are, naturally, theories about what the game might entail. The predominant theory suggests that the title may take us to Hammerfell but there’s no way to verify such speculation.

The only time Bethesda has really referenced The Elder Scrolls VI is in a post celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary last year.

In the post, it was mentioned that devs were “playing early builds”.

“Early builds” isn’t a phrase you really want to hear used in a post issued six years after a game was announced.

It’s for this reason that many believe The Elder Scrolls VI won’t be released until 2027 or beyond.

If it did land in 2027, that’s three years on from when we know devs were playing those early builds so it’s a plausible option.

This is Bethesda though; a studio known for taking its sweet time.

As I’m sure you can imagine, The Elder Scrolls fans have responded to this seven-year milestone with grimaces on their faces.

“The practice of announcing things too early needs to end,” tweeted RinoTheBouncer.

“Jesus christ, time flies,” added PhDStrawMan.

“It doesn’t exist,” joked MrSleep13.

Let’s hope an update drops before we reach the announcement's eighth anniversary, eh?
