Matt Reeves’ The Batman went down very well indeed when it was released in March of this year. In fact, Robert Pattinson’s first outing as Bruce Wayne just about beat Christian Bale’s, earning an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes compared to Batman Begins’ 84%. With that in mind, it came as a shock to many when just a few months ago, it was revealed that a sequel was yet to be given the greenlight.
Thankfully, we now know The Batman 2 is coming after director Matt Reeves struck a first-look deal with Warner Bros. Admittedly, I think we’re all keen to see Reeves’ interpretation of The Joker following the character’s brief introduction (played by Barry Keoghan). The problem is, the release of The Batman 2 is still several years away.
Speaking of DC, check out our review of the recently released Gotham Knights below.
A report from Variety claims that The Batman 2 is not expected to release until 2025. It’s a surprising move. You’d imagine that Warner Bros. would want to bank on the success of the first film as quickly as possible but that being said, we know there are several other The Batman inspired projects in the works.

Colin Farrell’s The Penguin is set to get his own TV show which will air on HBO Max. Actress Cristin Miloti was recently cast as Sofia Falcone so production is moving along on that project. Reports also suggest an Arkham Asylum series is in the works, in addition to a series focusing on the Gotham Police Department.
In essence, it looks like we’re getting a whole cinematic universe from Matt Reeves. It all sounds very exciting but this could also explain why the release of The Batman 2 is so far away. Good things come to those who wait though, they say.
