Terrifier 2 submitted for Oscars consideration just to screw with Academy

Terrifier 2's distributor, Bloody Disgusting, has submitted the slasher for Oscar consideration, because the concept is "hilarious".

Spooky season has been and gone, but that doesn’t mean that horror is done for the year. In case you’ve been blissfully unaware of its existence, allow me to introduce you to Terrifier 2, a movie that absolutely lives up to its name.

The grotesque slasher made headlines recently due to screenings of it apparently causing audiences to throw up and pass out due to its gore. I’m not going to lie, this does not sound like a fun time to me, but clearly it does to some, because the movie has now grossed over $7.9 million worldwide. When you compare that to its $250K budget, it’s pretty impressive.

Take a look at the trailer for Terrifier 2 below.

Needless to say, the movie has made quite the impact, and now, horror news site and distributor of Terrifier 2, Bloody Disgusting, has made the decision to submit the film for Oscar consideration. Why, you might ask? Purely because they think it’d be really funny to have the judges sit through it.

“No, it will never actually happen. Yes, it’s a total goof. But you know what? The thought of having members of the Academy endure an extreme unrated horror movie that they would otherwise consider beneath them? That’s just too hilarious of an opportunity to pass up,” Bloody Disgusting co-founder Brad Miska wrote.

Yeah, so they’re not exactly confident that their submission will actually amount to anything, but the concept alone is pretty great. We’ll just have to see what happens, although with the 95th Academy Awards taking place in March, there’s going to be quite a wait yet.

Terrifier 2’s director, Damien Leone, recently revealed that he’s considering making a third movie, and with so many questions left unanswered in the most recent one, this makes perfect sense: “I pretty much have the entire treatment ready for Part 3, but it’s getting so big that it could potentially split into a Part 4 because I wouldn’t want to make another 2 hour 20 minute movie,” he said.
