For fans who have long complained that modern gaming lacks a true sense of dread, Terminator: Survivors, the new game from Nacon Studio Milan, could be just the thing.

Set in 2009, just four years after Judgment Day, Terminator: Survivors is looking to move away from the power fantasy of typical shooters and return to the franchise's roots - purely terrifying, unadulterated survival horror.

As a rare survivor of a catastrophic event, you’ll help the Resistance rise from the ashes of civilization.

But beware, Skynet's machines patrol relentlessly the surface and the legendary T-800 is on your trail.

In many modern games, enemies feel like obstacles to be cleared for XP. In Terminator: Survivors, the T-800 is a persistent, near-invincible hunter designed to evoke the same adrenaline-pumping fear seen in Alien: Isolation.

Unfortunately, a recent update from its Creative Director has split the fanbase over a controversial decision.

However, achieving this level of immersion has required some major sacrifices.

In a recent developer update on Steam, Creative Director Marco Ponte revealed two massive changes that have shifted the game's trajectory.

Originally intended as a co-op experience, the team has officially axed multiplayer.

Internal testing showed that having teammates lessened the sense of isolation and fear.

To keep the vision "uncompromising," the game is now a solo journey.

Over on Reddit, fans were divided.

One user said: “I always thought they should’ve made like an open world walking dead type game where you could run, fight, or hide in some house & wait for the walkers to pass. These game companies truly just don’t try anymore.. every game is usually boring after a week or so.”

Now for the good(ish) news.

Instead of releasing a buggy, iterative build, Nacon is skipping Early Access entirely. They want the player’s first experience of the wasteland to be a "complete and polished" premium launch.

While the game has been delayed indefinitely, missing its original 2025 window, Nacon Studio Milan has confirmed that development is very much alive, despite the parent company’s recent financial restructuring.

But it’s not all over! You can help shape the future of the game.

The studio is currently moving into a heavy testing phase.

They have invited fans to join the official Discord and engage directly with the developers to discuss mechanics like base-building and stealth.

There will also be closed playtests throughout 2026 to refine the T-800's AI and the game’s survival systems.
