Steam really has become the place to go if you’re looking for free games to play on the PC, with a huge selection from a range of genres that should have a little something for everyone, regardless of which genre you favour.
Now, obviously the big heavy hitters like Counter-Strike 2, Marvel Rivals and the ever-mercurial Warframe are all great picks if you’re looking to while away an evening, but new games are being added all the time that are worth your consideration, and possibly even your time.
In that spirit, six new games have just hit the storefront that cover everything from full releases of Half-Life mods to visual novels and multiplayer horror titles, so if you like any of those things, it might be worth reading on.
Half-Life Arena Leads New Free Games on Steam

Probably the most interesting of the bunch are two Half-Life releases that, whilst technically mods, are essentially whole new games in and of themselves.

Half-Life Arena revamps the deathmatch of the original game into super high intensity fights on a much more condensed scale. It really is a hark back to the arena and tournament games of old and well worth jumping into on a rainy afternoon.
That’s joined in the list by Half-Life Legacy, which revolutionises the single player experience of the first release in the series. It covers the entire campaign, adding additional controller support, bug fixes, bunny hopping, enhanced visuals and, perhaps most importantly, Steam achievements.
The only drawback with those two is that, as mods, they do require the original game to run. As an essential part of any Steam collection, we’re hoping you might have it already.
Those are joined there by Dollemma, an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game where you and up to four friends can work together to escape a nefarious doll’s house. You can also play as the hunter trying to destroy the dolls, in a mechanic a little like Dead by Daylight.
Rounding out that list are three more interesting prospects in PROJECT LEVELS, 100 Radioactive Cats and This Winter of Ours.
The latter is a visual novel that follows two girls as they explore a snow laden forest, while PROJECT LEVELS is actually more of a platform than a game itself, allowing users to make their own mini-games using the tools provided.
Finally, 100 Radioactive Cats comes with some genuinely stunning hand drawn artwork, and all you have to do is make your way through the illustrations to see how many of the titular irradiated moggies you can spot. It’s a bit like Where’s Wally, so there’s no reason it shouldn’t have the same appeal.
