Steam Machine Meets Half-Life in Crossover We Absolutely Need

This brings back the nostalgia

With Valve once attempting to become the giants of PC gaming well over a decade ago, and ultimately failing at the endeavour, it is returning with the brand new Steam Machine.

Set to launch some time in 2026, the Steam Machine will be Valve’s next attempt to go head-to-head with Microsoft’s hold on PC gaming by offering a compact, yet powerful way for players to enjoy their Steam games.

Arriving alongside the Steam Controller and Steam Frame VR headset, the Steam Machine will launch in “Early 2026” and with industry insiders and analysts expecting it to cost anything from $400 to $500, you do not have long to save.

After all, if you are interested in PC gaming but do not want to splash the cash on a top-of-the-range gaming PC, the Steam Machine will be the next best thing and may just finally give Microsoft a run for its money.

However, with some potential customers wishing that the Steam Machine looked a bit better than a simple black box, others have come up with a potential solution.

Valve needs to make an orange Steam Machine called the "The Orange Box",” one user recently shared over on r/Steam.

Shared alongside an image of this “Orange Box”, it is pretty much identical to the current Steam Machine design other than being a bright orange instead of black.

The “Orange Box” of course refers to a video game compilation developed and published by Valve and consisting of Half-Life 2 and its first stand-alone expansion, Episode One.

Not only that but it also included Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal and Team Fortress 2.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Released way back in 2007, The Orange Box was met with rave reviews with praise for its selection of games, most importantly the inclusion of Portal, a puzzle-game that has become a classic over the years.

With five separate video games included in one package, The Orange Box is definitely a trip down memory lane and so it is no surprise that fans are calling for the Steam Machine to commemorate it.

“They should also bundle it with some of the games from The Orange Box,” one user commented.

Another agreed, adding, “As they did limited editions for the Steam Deck, I think this is very likely to be a future limited edition if the Steam Machine doesn't flop.”

With fellow Redditors seemingly being on board with this idea, it could definitely give Valve some ideas for the future, especially when it comes to limited editions inspired by some of its hit games.

For now, it remains to be seen how the Steam Machine will perform when it launches in Q1 of 2026.
