Starfield free download quietly rolled out, available now

Vague patch notes are my favourite kind of patch notes

You can get your hands on a new official update for Starfield right this second, depending on your platform of choice (and how brave you’re feeling).

Bethesda just dropped a new patch for Starfield, but lemme explain a few things about said patch before you get too excited about it.

Firstly, this is only available on Steam. Technically, it will only ever actually be available for Steam.

That’s because this is a “beta” patch. Bethesda only releases these beta patches for Starfield on Steam, so by the time the content in said patch makes it to Xbox, it’ll be the proper, fully formed sort of patch.

So, what does said update contain? Not much, I’ll tell you that for certain.

You can have a look at the patch notes for yourself here, but I can break it down for you in a single sentence: they fixed a bug related to the Extreme Temperature gear, and there's some "general" stability fixes. Exciting stuff.

Well, saying that, the Starfield community is clearly pretty desperate for new content in any shape or form, because they’ve actually found a way to get excited for it.

As stated in the preamble before the patch notes themselves, Bethesda notes that they will “share more about the exciting things” that they have lined up for Starfield “in the coming months”.

This little line has apparently given one user over on the r/Starfield subreddit a bit of hope, and it seems the folks in the comments half agree with them.

“I really do love this game. I wish they'd bring much more to it”, commented user Mundus09.

“There's so much that could be done to make this game even better.”

“Surely this will stop people from claiming that Bethesda abandoned Starfield”, replied user Dollar99Man.

I do wonder what “exciting” updates Bethesda have in the works, though.

Maybe it’s that PS5 port they’re doing an awful job of hiding?
