Starfield beta announced, months after the game released

Hey Bethesda, this is the wrong way round

In an odd swerve Bethesda have announced that Starfield players who own the game via Steam can now opt into a beta for the game. This may seem like the wrong way around, usually we get a beta for a game that is yet to release, however Bethesda want players to have a hand in future updates to the game.

Players don't have to play the beta version of the game, it is an 'opt in' program, but those who choose to play will get the chance to see updates well before they release to the general public.

Starfield has been out for some time now and many were impressed by what the game offers

The beta participation comes as part of a bigger update that also includes DLSS support and a whole host of bug squashing, too.

Should you want to take part in the beta it's a pretty simple path to get set up:

  1. Open your steam Library and navigate to Starfield
  2. Right click on "Starfield" and select "Properties"
  3. In the new properties pop-up window, select "Betas"
  4. In the beta drop down to opt into, select "[beta]"
  5. Wait for app to download new build and launch NOTE: The Starfield Steam Beta is a separate build of the game and will require a separate download. You will be able to continue with your latest save, but saves created in the Beta build will not work in the live game until the update is live.

Bethesda invite players to join their Discord so you can leave notes and thoughts on the updates. This is the first time Bethesda have tried something like this and it certainly seems like they want fans to have a hand in guiding the game's future. They have already been implementing ideas and requests, which should hopefully make for a more impressive game overall.
