Stardew Valley fan expansion basically turns game into Dark Souls

Irithyll of the Stardew Valley, unfortunately, doesn't make an appearance

Have you ever been halfway through lackadaisically planting your crops or desperately spamming your potential romantic partner with a copious amount of chocolate cake and thought to yourself “gee, Stardew Valley is great and all but, I wish this game was way more stressful and punishing”?

Well then I have incredible news for you, you masochist, because you can now turn your carefree, cosy farming sim into a Dark Souls game with the release of a brand new Stardew Valley mod.

“Boss Battles” is a combat-focused mod that you can download over on Nexus, from mod author w8AwA8w.

If that name sounds familiar to you for some reason, that might be because we covered their other Stardew Valley mod, Nature In The Valley, yesterday.

Mod author w8AwA8w explains Boss Battles “adds 7 boss fights” and 11 new, unique monsters to the game– and they’ve even thrown in some extra goodies to earn for defeating them too.

Boss Battles also “includes 8 hats which can be dropped by the monsters.” My personal favourite of these is just a massive slime head that can be earned by defeating the Slime King boss.

Fans of souls-likes and repeatedly dying over and over again should also be pleased to learn that some of the bosses in the mod are extremely punishing, with most commenters stating that the Iridium Soldier and Royal Slime fights are extra difficult.

And if you’re thinking of just cheesing the boss fights by using some of Stardew Valley’s classic exploits then good luck, as w8AwA8w notes that “by default during boss fights staircases are disabled and time is stopped for a maximum of 3 minutes.”

If you’re not entirely convinced and want to see a little more out of the mod before you try it, then I suggest giving the trailer for Boss Battles a look over on YouTube.
