Mace Windu is back in a new sequel to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, with an adventure that starts right after Qui-Gon Jinn’s death at the hands of Darth Maul.

A book that released in August 2024, called Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss, has been spotted at San Diego Comic Con with a limited edition cover, causing excitement among Star Wars fans in attendance.

The book is available at all retailers in its usual hardback, with a lovely cover showing Mace Windu swinging his iconic purple lightsaber.

However, the SDCC edition is a gorgeous white and purple, with Windu sketched on the front cover in a Japanese painting style, as seen on Twitter.

The story, if you missed it, covers the time after The Phantom Menace, with Windu tasked with travelling to The Outer Rim after receiving a final message from Qui-Gon Jinn.

Mace Windu finds himself aiding the populace of Metagos and his faith in the light side of The Force is tested like never before.

As Windu battles various criminal gangs, he pushes against the boundaries of the Jedi code, all in a desperate attempt to satisfy the wishes of Qui-Gon.

Not only is this a terrific tale of adventure, with a dash of espionage, it’s a great look into the relationship between Windu and Jinn, who never always saw eye-to-eye.

Though the pair were friends, that friendship was often tested, and this novel explores the feelings between the two, and how their views of the Jedi and The Force were sometimes at odds.

Readers have found this a great adventure, and one that rounds out Samuel L Jackson’s character even further than the films could.

Windu has been a fan-favourite for many years, and he’s appeared in several comics and books since the films released.

With Jackson saying Windu isn’t dead, we may get more stories in the future.
