Star Wars fans obsessed with real reason Mace Windu's lightsaber is purple

It literally changed everything

Star Wars fans love the reason why Mace Windu has a purple lightsaber, it’a gotta be one of the funniest behind-the-scenes stories from the films.

George Lucas’ two Star Wars trilogies were wonderful, mainly because he had a good idea of the beginning, middle and end before he started working on them, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t open to new concepts and ideas along the way.

The one we’re talking about today comes from Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones, the weakest of the prequels in my humble opinion

I’m sure many will have heard this tale but for those who haven’t let me clue you in, Mace Windu, the badass Jedi Master and one of my favourite Star Wars characters was one of the only Jedi to have a purple lightsaber.

The reason? Because Samuel L. Jackson’s favourite colour was purple and he wanted one so he could easily see himself when he’s on-screen.

“This 20 second conversation spiraled into hundreds of hours worth of extremely detailed and in depth lore” read a post by A-SALAM-K-II, which featured a behind-the-scenes video of Samuel L. Jackson asking for his purple lightsaber.

George Lucas explains Jedi get blue or green blades and Sith get red, before coyly adding that Jackson might get a purple one.

“And thus the Kyber Crystal theology was born” replied one fan in the comments, with another adding how much they love “how this one question shaped so much Star Wars lore to come.”

Others praised George Lucas for actually making it happen, saying “I love how George is so chill about lore for the sake of fun and coolness.”

You can’t deny the purple lightsaber looks cool, and it embodies Mace Windu’s character perfectly.

And as many pointed out it also meant other colours could be used for future lightsabers, so now we have the entire rainbow as options.
