Star Wars fans united over Luke Skywalker recasting

Luke Skywalker? More like Luke Byewalker

Luke Skywalker is one of the strongest Jedi in the Star Wars galaxy, and yet he’s hardly ever around when you need him.

Now you could chalk this up to the galaxy being a very big place, he can’t be everywhere at once and I don’t think anyone really expects him to be, but when new threats are emerging you’d think someone would give him a call.

Take the Ahsoka series for example, a galaxy-wide threat and Luke is nowhere to be found

Now while you can come up with a variety of story reasons as to why he doesn’t rock up with his green lightsaber and save the day, I think we all know the real reason is that Mark Hamill is an expensive actor to book, and the CGI Luke face isn’t quite perfected yet.

With this in mind many fans think it’s finally time for a recast, like Reddit user MightyDread7 who once said: “I love Mark Hamill but if they feel the face tech isn't there for full episodes they need to recast. He looked decent enough the last time we saw him in BOBF … Either they are afraid to recast or Filoni's legitimately trying to take Georges's legacy and make his animated series characters the new centerpieces.”

In the past many other actors have been fancast for the role, the most popular being Sebastian Stan who’s currently tearing it up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, next to appear in The Thunderbolts.

A recast wouldn’t be amiss at all, yet as one commenter said Luke and Leia Skywalker are both “treated as some sort of sacred cows when it comes to recasting.”

That said you never know what’s around the corner, and if rumours are to be believed that Filoni’s various projects will one day clash in an explosive Avengers-esque film, perhaps they will go with a recast for Luke rather than CGI.
