Star Wars fans horrified to learn how many times Luke and Leia actually kissed

I must incest you check the math

Star Wars fans are a little confused about the implications of Luke and Leia’s third kiss in the original trilogy, for like eight different reasons.

Alright, I can’t believe I’m about to say this but, I’ve just spent the last hour researching exactly how many times Luke and Leia snogged in the original trilogy.

Weirdly, considering how beloved and famous these films are, I couldn’t find a conclusive answer on the number of times they snogged. I think it’s four, but it could be five. I already feel dirty writing this.

Ok, so, the first time. Luke and Leia are about to swing over a ravine in the Death Star, and they have a cheeky peck on the lips. The second time is just before Luke goes to blow up the Death Star.

The third, and probably most famous one, is after Luke’s run-in with the Wampa, where Leia kisses him in an attempt to get Han to shut up.

Now, these three instances all take place before they find out they’re brother and sister. They also take place before Leia declares to Han that she loves him, during the “I know” scene.

So… what was the deal with the fourth time?

After Luke gets his hand chopped off, Leia visits him while he’s resting and gives him a little smooch on the lips. This is after Leia has told Han she’s in love with him but, thankfully, before either of them realise that they’re siblings.

Over on the r/StarWars subreddit, one user thinks they know the reason why things played out like this.

“I think they were still playing up the sexual tension in the group. I'm sure if the internet had been around back then there would have been tons and tons of fan fiction and Luke/Leia shippers”, they revealed.

“IIRC George Lucas decided to make them siblings during RotJ. He was tired of Star Wars and his wife was divorcing him. He wanted to be done so he tied up all the loose ends. The "other" Yoda mentions in TESB was meant to be a whole new character, but George decided in the end to wrap things up.”

Makes sense. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to delete my browser history.
