'Knights Of The Old Republic' Remake Features God Of War-Style Combat, Says Insider

Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake is said to feature an approach to combat that is based on God Of War 2018. Personally speaking, I am very into this idea.

The remake was revealed last September, after a prolonged period of rumour-rousing, in Sony's showcase for the PlayStation 5. Naturally, fans were almost levitating with excitement when Darth Revan stepped out of the shadows in the trailer, and Aspyr Media's interpretation of the cherished RPG is sounding like it will hit the spot for returning players and inquisitive Star Wars fans.

"Many of us previously worked at BioWare, with credits going back to the original KOTOR," explained Ryan Treadwell, the lead producer of the game, in a post to the PlayStation Blog. "To further bolster that, we've added some amazing developers from games like Demon's Souls Remake and Ghost of Tsushima. And our narrative team is fantastic, with years of storytelling experience across Star Wars games and comics."

Take a look at the trailer here - grab a cardigan, though, because you're bound to get goosebumps.

That trailer isn't overly long, however, so there isn't a lot to glean from the 66 seconds. Yet, YouTuber MrMattyPlays has claimed in a recent video that the developers are taking notes from the combat gameplay of God Of War and Nioh 2. Given the praise that these two titles gained for these sections of their experiences, this is a cheering sign for the progress of the final product. In addition, the team is twice the size that it was when work started on Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake in 2019.

Regarding the story of the remake, Aspyr Media isn't intending on straying from the original structure while a handful of minor characters might be changed in some small way like their name, species, or age. The swoop racing and Pazaak minigames will return, according to MrMattyPlays' sources, and new content like quests, characters and gameplay modes are on the cards. Finally, the developer will be re-recording the original soundtrack but it's not known whether this will be an identical re-recording or new elements will be integrated into the soundtrack. This should all be considered with caution as neither the developer nor publisher has confirmed these statements.

Another insider, Bespin, asserted that the game is targeting a release window of 2023 in order to give the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order some breathing room. That feels far away, as we are at the start of 2022, but it's possible that both games will be shown off in the Star Wars Celebration event in May. Watch this space.
