The Star Wars: Andor hype is well and truly building now that Disney Plus have dropped the first full-length trailer. In perhaps more disappointing news, the series was delayed but only by a few weeks so I’m sure we’ll survive. Star Wars: Andor will now debut on 21 September with a three-episode premiere.

Already fans have noted how much better the series looks compared to The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi thanks to the use of real sets as opposed to virtual environments. We’re now getting insight on the tone of the series as well, as one actor has described Andor as a “take on the Trumpian world.”

If you haven’t already, check out the epic trailer for Star Wars: Andor below.

The comment was made by actress Fiona Shaw who plays Maarva in the series. This is the point in the article where I’d explain who Maarva is but quite frankly, the Andor trailer hasn’t given me anything to work with. She’s in a friendly scene with Andor himself so I’m going to guess that Maarva is one of the good guys but hey, maybe that’s a red herring.

Moving on. Describing the show to Empire, Shaw said, “Tony [Gilroy] has written a great, scurrilous [take] on the Trumpian world. Our world is exploding in different places right now, people’s rights are disappearing, and Andor reflects that. [In the show] the Empire is taking over, and it feels like the same thing is happening in reality, too. I was impressed by Tony’s social-realist intentions. He’s created a whole new morality. It’s very deep and humane – there is grief, mourning, hope, fear. It’s not just primary colours here.”

Andor is set five years prior to the events of Rogue One and sees Cassian Andor lead a group of rebels against the regime of Emperor Palpatine, so I guess that makes Palpatine a Trump-like figure according to Shaw. The show certainly looks promising so far, so let’s hope it lives up to the hype.
