Spider-Man Isn't Finished With Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, Says Insider

Godspeed, Spider-Man

Spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home lie ahead. You've been warned, my friends.

One of the best things about the excellent Spider-Man: No Way Home was the terrifying return of Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin.

Dafoe played the role of Norman Osborn all the way back in Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man. Unfortunately, he met the business end of his own glider at the climax of the movie, which kind of ruled him out from returning for the rest of the trilogy (aside from a few brief cameos as an angry ghost).

Luckily, Spider-Man: No Way Home's multiverse-breaking shenanigans allowed this Green Goblin to finally make his MCU debut. And by God, Dafoe seized the opportunity with both hands.

Over the course of the movie, Dafoe reminded us why Osborn will always be Spider-Man's greatest foe. His Goblin was more frightening, powerful, and sadistic than he ever was in the Raimi movie, and it was a joy to watch.

It also felt very much like a one-last-time deal for Dafoe. Especially given that by the movie's end Osborn was "cured" and sent back to his own universe. However, a new report suggests that Sony wants to do more with Dafoe's Green Goblin in future Spider-Man movies.

According to Twitter user MyTimeToShineHello, a leaker with a fairly solid track record when it comes to Marvel movies, Sony is looking to bring the villain back yet again.

The leaker doesn't have much more to share outside of the simple fact that Sony "wants more Willem Dafoe", but that in itself is an exciting prospect. Even if I'm not entirely sure how exactly that'd work given how we ended things with him.

It's also worth noting that just because Sony wants to bring Dafoe back doesn't mean Dafoe would agree to come back. As game as he clearly was to throw down with Spidey in No Way Home, he's said nothing that would indicate he wants to go another round.

Still, after No Way Home, it seems like anything is possible. Watch this space.
