Sony Will Plant A Tree For Every Person Who Gets This Trophy In 'Horizon Forbidden West’

Sony have announced that they'll plant a tree for every player who unlocks the "Reached the Daunt" trophy, which is undeniably neat.

Horizon Forbidden West will finally be upon us this Friday, and if you’re not already excited, you definitely should be. In our review, we described it as “a clear step up from the first game”, and “takes everything that worked in its acclaimed predecessor and builds upon it in spectacular style.”

Not only is the sequel set to be packed with content, (completionists are set to be even busier than they were with the first game, and that’s saying something), but now, it’s also been revealed that you can also say you’re doing your bit for the environment by playing the game. Wait, what?

While you're here, be sure to check out some gameplay footage of Horizon Forbidden West below.

Yup, you’re reading that right. As reported by IGN, Sony have announced that they’re working with the Arbor Day Foundation, and will be donating one tree to a forest restoration project every time a player unlocks the “Reached the Daunt” trophy.

The project will be helping three different reforestation plans across the US, found in Douglas County Forest, Winconsin, Sheep Fire Private Lands, California, and Torreya State Park, Florida. All of these have been selected for specific reasons - Douglas County Forest, for example, was chosen due to the communities and habitats surrounding it being at risk of potential flooding due to previous deforestation, and the Sheep Fire Private Lands were selected due to the return of grey wolves in the area, who need forests to thrive.

This initiative is set to run until 25 March, or until all three restoration projects are completed. It’s expected that around 288K trees will be required to do this, and given that the trophy is unlocked automatically quite early in the game’s story, players probably aren’t going to have too much trouble reaching the target - especially when you consider that the first game has sold over 20 million units as of earlier this month.

So, just in case you needed any more excuse to jump into Aloy’s latest adventure, now you can proudly call yourself a climate activist, too. Horizon Forbidden West will be out on PS5 and PS4 (which it looks surprisingly decent on, too, by the way), on 18 February.
