SOCOM series desperately needs a revival, gamers say

PlayStation 2 fans are reminiscing about what an incredible shooter SOCOM 2 was.

Everyone has a particular console that just oozes nostalgia for them. Perhaps it’s the GameCube. Maybe you’re more of an Xbox 360 or Nintendo DS kind of person. For me, it’s the PlayStation 2 - the load-up screen will forever be sweetly embedded in my mind.

Here at GAMINGbible, we put together a list of the greatest PlayStation 2 games of all time. My personal favourite didn’t make the cut - and considering that that favourite is The Simpsons: Hit & Run, it’s quite honestly a crime, but I’ll take that up with my colleagues. Many users have gathered on Reddit though to look back at the gem that is SOCOM 2. In fact, many are hailing it as one of the greatest shooters ever created.

Take a look at some of our favourite PS2 games below.

Reddit user deathnachos wrote, “SOCOM 2 was easily the best of the series,” and plenty of people agreed. Mopeyy added, “Duuuude. SOCOM 2 is still seared into my brain. The maps were so f**cking good. Frostfire. The Mixer. Crossroads. Desert Glory. Fish Hook. Fox Hunt. Vigilance. Chain Reaction. Blizzard. I still remember the spawns and weapons. The voice chat beeps.”

THE-BS said, “18-year-old me spent all his money on SOCOM 2, a PS2 modem and a 100 foot ethernet cable,” while DYINGsucks added, “I would pay an ungodly amount of money per month just to have the old servers back up with the same amount of people playing as back in its prime. Still searching for a game like SOCOM 2 that gets me hooked like that game did.”

Prudent_Bee_2227 summed up the sentiment, saying, “SOCOM 2 is peak shooter. Desert Glory extraction is some of the best gameplay ever.” I do wonder if the SOCOM franchise will ever see the light of day again. It’s been 12 long years.
