PlayStation 6 Launch Title Leaves Gamers Split

With the launch of the PlayStation 6 on the horizon, players have been speculating as to which game will be released alongside it, marking the first game for a brand-new console generation.

Whilst neither the PlayStation 6 or its launch title have yet to be confirmed, that does not mean that speculation is not rampant and a recent discussion over on ResetEra has centered around one title in particular.

Gran Turismo 8.

The game itself was confirmed back in 2023 but a release window has not yet been confirmed for the next title in the beloved Gran Turismo franchise.

As a result, many fans believe that this could be the title to kick off the launch of the PlayStation 6.

Over on ResetEra, one user asked a simple question: Is Gran Turismo 8 a PS5 generation game or a PS6 launch title (cross-gen or otherwise) for 2027?

What followed was a poll and it seems as though 37.6% of fans believe that Gran Turismo 8 will be released on the PlayStation 5 before the PS6’s launch in Q4 2027 whilst 62.4% believe it will be a PS6 launch title.

It is worth mentioning that the Q4 2027 release window for the PlayStation 6 is merely a rumour at this stage but it is interesting to see that the majority of participants believe that Gran Turismo 8 is the first game which Sony will showcase on its next-gen console.

Nevertheless, it seems as though the mere possibility has left gamers split and they took to the comments to share their thoughts on the matter.

“Can I pick neither?” One user joked.

However, another user thinks that GT8 may be a cross-gen title instead.

“I think GT8 will launch on PS5 but not until after PS6 is out. It'll be a cross-gen game.

I do not think it'll be quite ready for the PS6 launch if we're thinking about the 2027 PS6 launch.

I'd expect more like mid to late 2028, just based on the state of GT7 and Polyphony's track record for development timelines -- they tend to take their sweet time and game dev is a lot harder now.”

It remains to be seen if Gran Turismo 8 will be the PlayStation 6’s launch title but with the next-gen console still a few years away, plans could still change dramatically.
