Dripping in dark fantasy lore and boasting Skyrim-like combat, the spiritual successor to The Elder Scrolls' blockbuster hit has now gotten even better.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon was touted to be the second coming of Skyrim, plugging the hole between the fifth instalment of the series and that ever-evading next one.

But with a bug-laden launch, Tainted Grail didn't get off to the start that it needed to in order to slip into the top shelf of RPGs.

Over time, though, the mythical title has continued to be supported with DLCs from developer studio Questline, and now they've just dropped the perfect add-on that finally shows this game in all of its glory.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon Third DLC Smashes Steam Rating

Celebrating its first birthday, Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has launched its third post-launch content already, and it's been an instant success with players.

While Skyrim and other AAA RPGs take nearly a decade to drop as much content, Questline isn't messing around in rebuilding its reputation. And it is free.

Titled 'Anniversary', the content drop includes an entirely new questline centred around the birthday of King Arthur, and ending with a present that all players will love.

There are also five new armour sets and a handful of fresh weapons, including a bow that the developers have been quick to champion.

The DLC also addresses its community's biggest gripe, as the final venture in most players' run through to getting the coveted Platinum trophy comes with Fishing.

The 'Gone Fishing' achievement requires players to catch every type of aquatic food in the dense waters around the map, but it can be a painstaking effort to reel your rod in and out to no avail. Now, you can 'cheat' and simply buy them all - that is, if you're accustomed to taking the easy walks of life.

Having been released on May 22, the third DLC has soared to a 98% posititivity rate on Steam.

"They did it again, another free DLC. I really appreciate the love they have for the game and community. Keep up the good work, Questline!" one review said on Steam.

Another added, "This is rare... I mean... It's free, and it brings QOL and content and.. It's still free. Watch this, you triple, quadruple, quintillion A-studios, This is how you have to treat your customers and communities!"

The DLC isn't quite that of Dragonborn, but the small, action-packed, and quality-improving support is everything that fans want to see from a smaller studio.
