A game’s visuals plays a large role in how we perceive the latest releases with more and more players looking for stunning graphics and photorealism in recent years.

Once upon a time, our favourite video games looked as though they were made using a microwave with polygonal breasts, fixed-camera angles and pixelated graphics.

However, as technology has advanced, so too have our favourite games and it is titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 that have released in recent years to critical acclaim thanks to the realism achieved via its graphics.

Another title which was advanced for its time was The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim which is still widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time.

Launched by Bethesda back in 2011, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim may have received multiple re-releases over the past decade and beyond but it is still yet to receive a new-gen overhaul.

Luckily, one Youtuber has given us a glimpse at what that remaster could look like and it is safe to say that you will never see the land of Skyrim the same again.

Created by Digital Dreams, we can now see The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 8K at 60FPS.

Not only that but thanks to over 3,000 mods and the RTX 5090, the accompanying trailer really shows that photorealism and ray tracing are the future when it comes to some of our favourite RPGs.

Featuring just over eight minutes of footage, we can see the Dragonborn explore some of Skyrim’s most iconic locations, swim through crystal clear lakes and even fight wolves and spiders who stand in their way.

You can see the difference

We can see sunlight bursting through trees and reflecting off nearby lakes, we can see the dust taking to the air as they meander through beloved villages and we can see blood splatter coat the screen when they take down an enemy.

It feels like putting on your glasses for the first time and it just goes to show what would be possible if Bethesda was to ever release a new-gen overhaul for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

And it seems as though fellow viewers agree.

“This is one hell of an upgrade for such an old game,” one comment read.

Another agreed, adding, “Might be the best, most natural one I've seen.”

Digital Dreams’ mod list can be found in their video description so if you want to try this unofficial remaster out, and you think that your PC can handle it, you will be able to recreate it in no time.

For now, let us hope that any future overhaul for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will take some inspiration from this one.
