Games arrive on Steam all the time and, frankly, a lot of them just aren't worth spending your precious time on. Still, it's a good idea to keep an eye out for upcoming releases that could really make a name for themselves in a field as competitive as this one is.
Pale Coins is an old-school fantasy RPG that's set to hit the Steam store on 22 October, and it looks like it has all of the ingredients to make a real splash when it does drop next month.
In the developer's own words, players can "Explore the open world of Grenmark in Pale Coins, an old-school Fantasy Action-RPG with souls-like elements. Pale Coins features challenging gameplay and unique boss fights, tons of rare loot to find, dungeons to conquer, quests to complete, and stories to uncover."
The thing that immediately stands out is the artwork, with all of the game being handcrafted and illustrated, with a ton of the designs that have been revealed so far looking genuinely unique. The pixel art style has obviously been a popular one in recent times, and for good reason, but Pale Coins is an exceptional example.

The world is chock full of NPCs and dungeons to explore, and the developer promises everything from verdant forests to epic mountain ranges and cave systems.
You'll also be able to take advantage of several different approaches to combat, whether it be up close and personal with a sword, or from range with bow attacks or magic.
The big boost to your overall power will come from the various pieces of gear that you can find throughout the world as rewards for your troubles killing off massive monsters. These can do anything from grant additional offensive spells or movement abilities, to allowing you to summon minions to support your efforts in battle.
There are a lot of branching storylines and quests to complete as well, so it should offer plenty of value if you do decide to go ahead and buy it when it launches.

Lastly, the developer has promised "no handholding" so experienced RPG fans should find the experience even more rewarding.
In even better news, the demo is available to download right now, so you can try before you buy. The full game arrives on 22 October, so mark that date in your calendars if the demo does its job and manages to impress you.
