Skyrim meets Fable in open-world RPG you may have missed

Lovely open-world exploration

If we had a penny for every open-world adventure that allows for deep exploration of a stunning environment, we’d have a couple of quid, at least. Every now and then one comes along that deserves a shout out, and we have one right here.

Outward is a lovely game that can be explored either solo or with a buddy in co-op. An RPG that speaks to Skyrim and Fable fans. You’ll find yourself roaming the wilds of Aurai trying to survive alongside creatures who want nothing more than to see you dead. This is, as the developers put it best, a world where “the cold of the night or an infected wound can be as dangerous as a predator lurking in the dark.”

Skyrim fans will likely enjoy this survival RPG

The definitive edition of Outward is a spruced up version of the original release and packs in so much more to keep you occupied. The game is an RPG adventure based on survival mechanics where you’ll need to keep yourself fed, make sure you get enough sleep, and ensure that any wounds are properly treated.

The world of Aurai is a dangerous place, but also a beautiful one. With a wilderness that pleases the eye, your exploration will be a joy, even if you’re being hunted as you discover new areas. Of course, what would a survival game be without some building, here you’ll be rebuilding an entire city in between gathering materials and fighting beasts with magic or melee weapons.

The developer notes that no two playthroughs will be the same, which is an appealing prospect for a survival title, knowing you can replay it over and not always follow the same path. With so much to see and do, this game is a must for your wishlist if you enjoy survival titles, plus it’s verified on Steam Deck for that perfect portable experience.
