An upcoming RPG from Chinese developers Liyou has appeared on YouTube and seems to show off several sections of their upcoming game codenamed JINYIWEI. From what we see in the footage, it’s heavily inspired by Asian tradition and history, building a gorgeous world around these concepts.

There’s definitely a lot here for fans of Sekiro based on the combat. The trailer, which features the tutorial of the game and showcases combat and several narrative scenes, takes us through many environments with a variety of characters.

Fans of Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima should keep an eye on this game.

The combat shares a lot with another recent release, SIFU, which relied heavily on countering attacks and was rooted in the world of martial arts. From the footage, we can see that attacks seem to have real heft behind them, which should make for an enjoyable style.

Elsewhere we see plenty of traditional settings that look lavish - the bamboo grove, which opens onto a small settlement, looks stunning in Unreal Engine 5. All the while characters appear to move with lifelike actions both in and out of combat.

There’s little information about the game doing the rounds so for now we’ll have to make do with this early footage. There’s a great foundation here to build from and where the video lacks in polish, it’s sure to come as the game moves through development. Unreal Engine 5 really brings worlds like this to life, showcasing wonderful lighting systems that give the footage a sense of realism even when the game feels larger than life.

Hopefully, as development goes on we will get to see more of this title. It will definitely find a home with people who enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima and other games that build upon Asian roots, tradition, and architecture while delivering a narrative on themes of loyalty and revenge.
